Our Mission

I started 1st Tide to share my lifelong passion for fishing and the great outdoors with others. Whether you're just picking up a rod for the first time, a seasoned angler, or someone simply curious to try something new, my hope is to inspire you to spend more time outside, enjoying the beauty of the natural world around us.

Conservation is at the core of everything I believe in. Take only what you need, leave your environment better than you found it, and enjoy the outdoors in a way that ensures it's here for future generations to experience and protect.

About Us

My wife Jill and I both grew up on the East Coast—Jill in rural Pennsylvania, where she spent her days caring for horses and playing softball and tennis; and me on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, chasing schools of striped bass, hunting for arrowheads, and waterfowl hunting.

We met out in Utah, where some of our first dates were duck hunting on the Great Salt Lake and fishing for carp from our first beat-up old jon boat, affectionately named The Green Bastard. After moving back to the East Coast, we became completely hooked on fishing the lower Chesapeake Bay, chasing all kinds of species—mostly from our kayaks, but sometimes from shore or our upgraded jon boat, The Green Bastard II.

We love enjoying the spoils of a day on the water—cooking up fresh fish, trying new recipes, and swapping stories about the adventures that got us there.
